Lt. Ellis haled from England. Initially, he served in the 13th Airborne division. As you can see from his hat patch, he was a glider rider. He married the base commander's daughter; boy was she a looker. He was then transferred to the 45th division as the new father-in-law did not want him in his combat unit. He fought at Salerno and all the way up to Germany. He was killed on April 4, 1945...one month before the VE day. Freedom is not free, rather it is paid for in blood by such heroes as Lt. Ellis. His wife grieved for him until she recently passed.
